lyrics

I’m in a bad mood, this darkness is blinding
I don’t want tae talk about clothes or how I’m grinding
Blindfolded, my finger taps the rhythm
Counting backwards from the cataclysm
Empty, these twisted minds beckon from sleep mode
23:59, seconds from zero
I write goodbye
And wait for the ink to dry
Lost in a maze of indifference
These snakes slithering leave me deafened from the sibilance
Time to de-ess this scenario.
Don’t step on the marigolds
Tracking footprints in the flowerbeds
Since the hour Z, counting how I’m blessed
I found sense KO’d at the ringside
‘If you can hear me just blink twice’
In the springtime, in the tumbleweed
Searching for green shoots of recovery
The husk of a once fearsome thing
Made to dance by complex gears and strings
Tired and worn, past her prime
Contrived by a criminal mastermind
Who grasped her light and sweet-talked her
From proud author to bejewelled streetwalker
Who stole the essence of this bright-eyed messenger?
Seeing Dollar signs while sedating and undressing her?
Expect the worst, her head was turned
Now this is all that’s left of her

Her eyes flash and a glimmer of recognition passes
Across snow globe irises like television static
She’s ma heroine, ma saviour and addiction,
Unwavering conviction but she’s majoring in fiction
Bewitching: 70s baby, the essence of the 80s,
90s were golden, millennium she faded
Self-raised, most definitely crazy
These days she’s heavily sedated
Traded, and trapped into stasis
Chained, she still evokes flashes of greatness
And I’m just sat on the pavement
Trying to make sense of her latter-day statements.
We’re not kinfolk
I’m on the outside, face pressed to the window
On tip-toe, ma skin froze,
As soulless shadows share an in-joke
It’s not the same as before
It never rains but it pours
Dissecting hope from flesh and bone
And you wonder why I want to be left alone?
Saboteurs and scavengers, circle and ravage her
Savagely detached as it’s captured on the camera
Glassy-eyed, I just watch
As blood-stained and stripped off
She’s stuffed into a Ziploc
I think her name was “Hip-Hop”
